The Burwell-Holland homeplace (600 Jacks Mountain Road, Glade Hill, VA 24092) has a long and rich history.
History
The home was built by the Burwell family of the Tidewater area in 1798. William A. Burwell served as Secretary to Thomas Jefferson.
In 1850 the estate was sold to Thomas J. Holland and has remained in the Holland family since that time, earning the designation as a “Virginia Century Farm.” It is also listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
It is currently owned by John and Shirley Holland.
Event Venue
They dismantled an old stable and built an event barn using the reclaimed lumber. The barn is 50 feet by 50 feet, holds approximately 150 people, and includes 2 bathrooms and a utility/kitchen area.
A stone patio with a fire pit is adjacent to the barn. An arbor for ceremonies is on the grounds.
Located on a large farm, the site is surrounded by fields and hills, offering lovely views and lots of privacy.
A nearby cabin is available for lodging or for wedding parties to dress in. The Hollands believe the barn, grounds and buildings should be enjoyed and want to provide an affordable venue for meaningful celebrations.
